It has been often said that change is the only constant in the universe. Maybe so but as disciples of Christ we know that our G-d is constant. Malachi 3:6 states, “For I the Lord do not change;” G-d’s word does not change Isaiah 40:8 and “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” Hebrews 13:8. But there is the rub. We rejoice how constant our G-d is but must deal with change in our universe. And as humans we detest change except in two circumstances – when it’s our change or we experience an immediate positive result (e.g., an increase in income).

But change is happening rapidly, and it is happening rapidly to Christ’s Church and congregations and may mean the end of Christianity as we know it.

Overwhelmingly American Christians have no idea and do not want to know that Christendom in America is dying. Even presenting the idea that Christendom is at its end to traditional Christians threatens the comfort provided by a never-changing G-d. And resistance to the idea that Christendom is dying is powerful.

Christendom is defined by Merriam-Webster as “the part of the world where Christianity prevails”. Note the definition does not state “where disciples of Christ are the majority” or “where the Kingdom of G-d triumphs”. Instead, Christianity culturally and socially (not evangelically) prevails. See, you can live in Christendom and not be a Christian. However, if you live in Christendom, you must obey the Christian rules or at least respect those rules. And the number one rule of living in Christendom is to “go to church on Sundays”. Easy peasy!

And all that is changing. Even ending.

But, the traditional Christian, fearing change, will close their eyes to this transformation and even run from it. American Christians, not realizing they are only following the Christian rules vice obeying G-d’s commands, will wake up one day, possibly soon, and realize irreversible change to their Christianity.

WE MUST CHANGE NOW!
