Christians will be judged

We all love that painting! “First Day in Heaven”. Joyous! The sight of that first moment when we enter Heaven and jump into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Or how about one of the greatest Christian songs of our time “I Can Only Imagine”? The lyrics go:

“Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel

Will I dance for You Jesus, or in awe of You be still

Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall

Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all

I can only imagine”

These sentiments are wonderful, heart-warming, popular and not supported by Holy Scripture. What does the Bible say about the moment we enter heaven? Is that first moment in Heaven what we generally believe it to be?

Hebrews 9:27 is specific. “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,”. If we are to take this passage literally, we die then judgement. But isn’t Judgement Day meant for non-believers? We start with 2 Corinthians 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” So, Christians will face judgement after dying and not only that but based on what we have done! Revelation 12:12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.” What are we supposed to be doing?

Christ makes clear in Matthew 28:19, 20 and Acts 1:8 that we are to be witnesses for the purpose of making disciples. The Church’s purpose is to prepare us for those works of service! Ephesians 4:11, 12 states “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up”. Numerous times the New Testament calls on Christ’s disciples to serve G-d. How Christians are to be judged reflets not only what we do in Christ’s name but our attitude about it.

Can you imagine what that day will be like?
